AFTER SALES HELP

We know how difficult it can be when moving to a new country.  There are many things to sort out - getting residency, buying a car, registering with a doctor, or maybe even getting your kids into a local school - and all this just when your Italian language skills are probably none too hot!

Fortunately we have a group of people who have lived here for some time and are offering their services to help you settle into life in Umbria. All are English or speak English fluently.

 

Lin Lane heads our team of After Sales Helpers.  She often handles property and project management herself but assigns the appropriate member of her team for the things she can't cover.  She can help with a wide range of things such as buying a car, obtaining residency, translation work, liaising with building companies, etc.  If you need anything done on your house, from putting up a post box to a complete restoration, contact Lin on:

General Assistance

Maureen Lemmon has had a home in Umbria for over 20 years and can help with the following:

Setting up your new home by showing you where to buy anything you might need from furniture, garden equipment, DIY tools to Marmite.

Looking after the property in your absence by holding keys, checking the mail, and letting people in to do work if need be.

Meeting and greeting friends and relatives who come to stay in your absence.

Advising on requirements for obtaining a Permesso di Soggiorno and Residenza.

Helping and advising on letting your property. For those without a computer, she will open an email account, set up a web site and monitor and reply to emails on your behalf.

Setting up computers and getting you connected to the internet, dial up or ADSL (broad band).

Informal, hands on, tuition on how to get the most out of your computer and the internet – eg. how to download and send photos with your emails or how to set up a basic web site so you can share your experiences with friends and relatives.

If you have pets she can put you in touch with English-speaking vets, and recommend a boarding kennel/cattery.

Steve Elliott lives with his wife in the centre of Umbria and offers his services to undertake small jobs and general work around your house, from putting up a post box to fitting a kitchen. He can also help with setting up your computer and solving associated problems.

Garden design

Anne Hanley moved to Rome from the UK over 20 years ago and worked as a journalist writing for The Independent and The Sunday Telegraph, among others, and editing Time Out's Italian guides before turning her passion for garden-making into a career. She retrained as a landscape architect at Rome's La Sapienza university, and now shuttles between Rome and Citta della Pieve, Umbria, designing terraces in the former and gardens all over central Italy.

In her country designs, Anne is particularly aware of the natural surroundings, striving to make gardens that sit comfortably in their context, while providing all the spaces and amenities that create enjoyable, usable, outside 'rooms'. She is also very aware of the needs of absentee owners, and aims to make gardens that require as little maintenance as possible.

Bryan and Grace Clinch live in Castel Rigone, just north of Lake Trasimeno. They have lived in Italy for many years, managing an agriturismo until recently. They offer an orientation service for those of you who are looking for a kickstart in getting things established in your new life/home.

'The cost of our service is 20 euros per hour. If transport is required 30 euros per hour. We have a Partita IVA (VAT registration) and work under the name ‘Holidays and Languages’ and can provide an invoice if necessary. For many people who have settled in the area unneccessary expense, time wasting, confusion and distress has, to some degree, punctuated their progress from ‘deciding to move to moving in’. These monetary and emotional costs can be minimized by our help and assistance.

A further string to our bow which may interest you is that Grace and I are both teachers: she teaches Italian and English and I teach English mainly for the Todi Language Centre. We offer intensive, weekly residential courses mainly to highly motivated Italian professionals. However, we also want to develop the Italian side of our activity and can offer beginners courses especially orientated to the needs of newly arrived expatriates.

Finally, linked to my passion for woodturning and something which I’m developing on the net I intend to offer residential woodturning courses next year. I’m sure that today’s retired or semi-retired traveller is looking for a deeper experience from his or her holiday.'
