Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany
Many people come to Umbria for a holiday, as we did, and start to think "I'd like to live here!" then the dreaming begins! You get home and suddenly Italian things come up in bright neon lights; food, clothes, wine and even red cars! However, buying a holiday home here is one thing but taking the plunge of selling up the family home and actually emigrating is quite a different matter! It needs a lot of thought and a lot of courage. You have to feel it in your heart and your head! Personally we have no regrets. Our children have all grown up and, whilst they used to just pop in for the occasional meal, they now stay for a week or two, once or twice a year, so we actually see more of them! Having a holiday home in Italy is a great conversation piece at dinner parties and often results in a booking or two!
Once you have seen a property you like and have decided to come and have a look you can stay at one of the many great places we have selected for you in the section called 'Holidays in Umbria' or look on further into one of the holiday providers we have listed for you. You can even stay with us at Villa Rosa, which makes it easier to discuss things and shoot off to see houses. The choice is yours.
Buying a property in Italy is quite different to many other countries. We hope this section of the website explaining the process will help you to understand it a little better. It is important information so please read it carefully and make sure you fully understand it. We feel that the procedure here in Italy is extremely good, practical and fair...the only thing that can screw it up are the people involved! Bureaucracy in Italy is legendary but it does have the beneficial side effect of ensuring that everything is in order.
Finally...don't worry, La Porta Verde is here to help you through the whole process, translate, guide, advise and recommend. We want you to be happy with your purchase here and enjoy this wonderful country. Most of our clients have become good friends and often call in to let us know how things are going and share a glass of our wine. Come and join us on the terrace!
