Using a property lawyer
When buying a property in Italy, or any foreign country for that matter, it is important to ensure that your interests are protected. Laws vary widely between different countries and there are always traps they you may innocently fall into. For example, when buying a property with a piece of farmland the neighbouring farmers have the legal right to buy your property at the price you paid for it up to two years later. This is easily avoided by getting them to sign a document relinquishing this right, but the trap is there.
If you are worried about buying a property in Italy then we recommend that you seek legal advice prior to committing yourself to making what may be the biggest purchase of your life and we know several companies that can help you. If you need that peace of mind it will naturally cost you more and slow down the buying process but it could be a wise investment. Using a property lawyer is a bit like using a seat belt - you never know when you might need it!
The problem is that if several people are interested in the same property it is the one who puts his offer in writing with a deposit who gets in first. Using a property lawyer will naturally slow things down and you may miss out on your dream home.
